Health tip #1 - The importance of good dental health
Dental health impacts many other body systems:
Oral infections contribute significantly to heart disease through supplying bacteria that can cause endocarditis and increasing vascular inflammation.
Oral infections are negatively synergistic with sinus infections, they perpetuate one another. They can both contribute to lung disorders.
Mercury containing fillings contribute to neurological and brain diseases. Mercury is a neurotoxin, and combining it with other metals in a tooth does not decrease toxicity to the body. Mercury containing fillings (silver fillings, mercury amalgams) need to be replaced with composite fillings.
Dissimilar metals in adjacent teeth can set up electric currents (similar to a battery) that can interfere with brain function.
Oral hygeine - Do not swallow any tooth cleaning agent or product
Don't use commercial toothpastes containing artificial sweeteners or flouride.
Brush your teeth with one of the following:
50:50 mix of baking soda and sea salt
Baking soda made into a paste with 3% hydrogen peroxide
Rinse your toothbrush between uses with hydrogen peroxide
If tarter is a problem, a good product is EcoDent Tarter Guard powder - really works well
Ultrasonic tooth brushes are quite effective at cleaning teeth; Sonicare is the most popular
Cleaning between teeth
Flossing is an acceptable method with thicker floss (Dentotape) being more effective than some of the thinner types.
The hydraulic cleaning machines are very good at removing food particles from between teeth and from the gum line; Waterpik is the best known brand. Hydrogen peroxide (3%) may be added to the reservoir for added cleaning effectiveness; do not swallow peroxide
Oral rinses
Mix 3% hydrogen peroxide with an equal volume of water; do not swallow peroxide.
If you are choosing a commercial mouthwash, alcohol free is best.
